JOB TITLE:   Plant Electrical Supervisor

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Maintenance Supervisor, Operations Manager

FTE: 1.0 (8 hours per day) 6:30 am - 3 pm

START DATE: As soon as possible after hire

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and Facilities Director, insures that all district electrical needs are properly maintained in a safe and timely manner. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must possess the physical and mental skills and abilities to:

• Prioritize work orders assigned to position
• Read, interpret and understand blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
• Analyze and repair electrical problems
• Ability to compute the load for circuit breaker and related electrical components
• Make independent judgments
• Clearly and professionally express concerns, evaluations, or suggestions in writing or verbally to supervisors, contractors or fellow workers
• Diagnose and correct problems associated to building maintenance
• Estimate and schedule work completion including but not limited to work schedule, required man-hours, supply/parts orders, contracting out options, clean-up
• Complete work orders without direct supervision
• Safely and skillfully operate power and hand tools of the trade
• Recognize, identify and offer solutions to potential safety/emergency issues
• To work in a multi-task, teamwork environment, supporting the wide range of tasks including but not limited to; plumbing, grounds, welding, use and repair of hand/power tools, grounds equipment, motors, electrical (if qualified)
• Read small print and see distances equal to driving requirements
• Extreme flexibility that allows both entering and working in confined spaces and ability to work at gym ceiling heights
• Lead other electricians and personnel with LME, LBME licenses. Assign and oversee electrical work as permitted by these licenses.
• Assure permits are obtained for all electrical work outside the scope of licensing for this position, work done by outside contractors, and other District electricians work. Document and keep records for permits obtained for any work done in the District.
• Accessible after work hours, with compensation according to the OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement guidelines.

Must possess the education and/or training to perform at acquired/knowledge of:

• Mechanical aptitude
• Work well with and without supervision
• Work independently with written and/or oral instructions
• Thorough and extensive knowledge and skill level in the methods, tools, materials and practices of the electrical trade
• Thorough and extensive knowledge of State and Federal electrical codes, regulations and standards governing the electrical trade

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises District Electrical Journeyman and District Electrical Apprentices.  Supervision of temporary employees may be required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Completion of High School (diploma) or GED equivalent
• Minimum of four years’ work experience as a Manufacturing Plan Journeyman or as a Supervising Electrician.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Sufficient language skills to communicate to staff, vendors & community technical information that is related to specific projects. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Math skills sufficient to enable employee to project, plan, cost out and order materials within this job description

REASONING ABILITY

Reasoning skills to enable this position to work without direct supervision, to follow safe workplace procedures, to recognize potential problems and respond to emergencies appropriately

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Supervisor’s License
• Positions in this classification, depending on title, have specific educational licenses and certificates of completion that may include but is not limited to an LME license
• Possession of a current Oregon State Operator’s License issued by the State of Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

• Lift individually materials, frequently 10-25 pounds, occasionally 20-50 pounds, and occasionally over 100 pounds
• Discriminate colors for wood working, electrical code work
• Hear safety warnings on equipment and in buildings
• Push and pull materials up to 400 pounds with hand trucks
• Crawling, kneeling and repeated bending occurs frequently in the course of the shift
• Climbing ladders, working on high-reach/scaffolding equipment and working on roofs may occur for extended periods of time and up to 80% of the work shift
• Walk, stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Must be able to work under the following conditions with or without reasonable accommodations:

• Subject to loud noises and dusty conditions working around and with various types of power equipment. Conditions may include but are not limited to dust, grime, odor, fumes, and moisture
• Subject to extreme weather conditions at certain times of the year.
• Repetitive motion is associated with the use of maintenance equipment
• Equilibrium balance and coordination necessary to climb ladders, drive equipment
• Majority of the shift is spent walking and standing
• Fine motor movements (i.e. lock pins, keys, small auto mechanical parts)
• Exposures to chemicals and electricity may include but are not limited to solvents, oil base paints, chemical spills, cleaners and glues

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a twelve month assignment on the Skilled Trades ST-C range of the Classified Job Schedule.  The assignment of the step will be in compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and range of pay is located in the current Classified Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.
