JOB TITLE: Nutrition Service Assistant 1
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Food Service Lead/Food Service Manager/Food Service Supervisor
FTE: 0.4375 (3.5 hours per day)
Start Date: As soon as possible after hire
GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:
The position of the Food Service 1 is to provide nutrition services to a school population as assigned and to assist in the preparation, serving, cleaning duties and selling meals to students, staff and the community in a sanitary, efficient and friendly environment.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Skill in the use and maintenance of all kitchen equipment
-Demonstrate clear, effective interpersonal skills, including neat and clean appearance
-Plan daily work effectively and complete work on time with a minimum of supervision
-Possess a thorough knowledge of rules and regulations regarding sanitation, chemicals, MSDS, food preparation
-Work effectively in challenging situations
-Demonstrated ability to prepare, cook and store foods according to HACCP methods
-Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish or other languages related to the job
-Ability to work harmoniously with others
-Responsible for performing Lead’s duties, if asked, in his/her absence
-Knowledge and proficiency in operation of POS meal accounting system
-Enters computerized meal accounting and sales data
-Store and retrieve products as needed and cleans kitchen and work areas complying with sanitation requirements.
-Maintain required records for meal accounting and temperature logs
-Performs scratch cooking as needed on a daily basis
-Assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
-Continually provide a harmonious, service-oriented attitude with students, school staff, and parents.
-Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, FUNCTIONS, AND CAPABILITIES
-A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent
-Job related experience, which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Prior food services and/or customer service experience is preferred.
-Must obtain and maintain a current food handler’s certificate.
-Knowledge is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
-Specific knowledge is required to satisfactorily perform the job functions and comply with health standards and hazard, sanitation and safety practices and procedures.
-Basic knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft Office and Excel is preferred. Basic training with be provided if necessary.
-Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others and maintain confidentiality concerning privileged information. Attend all required department meetings and training. Maintain knowledge of and comply with District and State regulations as they relate to food service preparation, safety and sanitation.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
-Works in close proximity of others and interacts with co-workers, supervisors, school staff, students, outside vendors and visitors. Work is performed in school building food service work areas. Work areas are well lit, well ventilated and noise is quiet to moderate. Moderate exposure to dry and wet conditions, to fumes, cleaning solvents, vibration with some equipment and temperature changes between cooking and refrigeration areas. All school facilities and grounds are smoke-free environments.

EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a 9 month assignment on the C range of the Classified Salary Schedule.
A new employee shall be allowed up to (4) four years experience on the salary schedule, based on actual years of experience on a job of like responsibilites and skills. The highest hourly rate for a new employee would be $17.79 per hour. |
